Why Tubes Made All the Difference

From just two and a half months old, their baby boy was battling frequent ear infections. By the time he was five and a half months old, his parents made the decision to have ear tubes placed—a decision that, in their words, changed everything for the better.

While he still experienced the occasional ear infection afterward and sometimes needed antibiotics, the tubes helped manage the issue in a way nothing else had. They understood that tubes don’t prevent infections entirely, but they do help with drainage, and for their child, this was a crucial difference.

At 12 months old, he was diagnosed with selective IgA deficiency, a condition that explained so much about his chronic infections. It’s not curable, and it doesn’t improve over time, but having that knowledge brought clarity and allowed them to better support their son’s needs.

Looking back, the parents are grateful they followed their instincts. Relying solely on allergy testing or unsolicited advice from others might have led them down a different path—one that could have resulted in more long-term suffering for their child. The tubes weren’t just helpful; they were necessary.
