For years, she shared her bed with her daughter, their nights a quiet continuation of the closeness they nurtured during the day. But as her belly grew round with the coming of a new baby, she knew change was near. Gently, she began preparing her little girl for “big girl sleeps” in her own bed.
It started simply—her daughter falling asleep in her own room, with the door left slightly ajar. If she woke in the night, she was welcome to climb back into the familiar warmth beside her. In time, the routine shifted. Instead of returning to her bed, she would go to her daughter’s, lying beside her just long enough to soothe her back to sleep.
Now, with a newborn cradled beside her, she still makes space when needed. Her daughter visits on stormy nights or when fevers flare—but mostly, she sleeps soundly in her own room.
