At around eight months old, her baby began having strange episodes—moments where he would stare blankly and seem completely unresponsive, sometimes for up to a minute. No amount of calling his name, waving, or trying to get his attention worked. Concerned, she and her partner started recording the episodes to track what was happening.
Another mom, familiar with petit mal (absence) seizures through her own children, saw the videos and gently suggested that these could be seizure activity. That prompted a visit to a neurologist, where they braced for difficult news.
But after thorough evaluation, the surprising diagnosis came in: nothing was wrong. Their baby was simply sleeping with his eyes open.
